Up or Down? The Choice is yours!

Travelling with your caravan blinds either up or down isn’t something you would consider as a heavy debatable topic now would you? But this simple question has start many a mini debate. For most of us regular people however the decision of whether to travel with their caravan blinds opened or closed isn't something we worry too much about and usually have the up because that’s the way they were when we packed the caravan. Who ever packs their van with the blinds down?

Some people new to towing caravans often prefer to leave the blinds open so they can look through their caravan to road behind them. Looking through the rear view often gives them a sense of familiarity when towing but depending on the caravan style you may see nothing more than a reflection of the back of your car in the wardrobe mirror.

For some, towing their caravan with their blinds down in summer helps them to arrive at the caravan site with a cooler interior to their caravan by reflect the sunlight. This refection however can be distracting to other drivers and can often give caravanners a bad name, like we don't already have one. Many other drivers and caravanners, including myself, find this practice of driving in high sunlight with silver reflecting blinds pulled down dangerous and one that should be discouraged always. If you know there will be bright sunlight on your journey you should ensure the blinds are in the open position.

Privacy is often a reason stated for traveling with the caravan blinds down and when stopping at service stations those towing caravans don't want every Tom, Dick or Harry peering into their caravan and seeing what they have stored inside. Some this is just a private issue who don't like the idea of others looking into their living space but for others it's a security issue. These people believe that leaving your blinds up can encourage others to break into your caravan by showing them what type of gods are on the inside.
